Palin Tops Herself With Her Newest "Word Salad"

Sarah Palin is once again making noises like she wants to run for the Republican nomination for president, and to further that ambition, she spoke to the right-wing Iowa Freedom Summit in Des Moines last Saturday. But Palin, who is famous for her "word salads", topped even her previous efforts and left everyone confused as to just what the hell she was talking about.

I don't know if she was drunk, high, or just incredibly stupid, but I hope she does get in the race for the GOP nomination. Her inclusion in the Republican field of candidates would taint the whole group, and help expose them for the buffoons they really are. Here is an excerpt from her Iowa speech:

"Things must change for our government. Look at it. It isn’t too big to fail. It’s too big to succeed! It's too big to succeed, so we can afford no retreads or nothing will change with the same people and same policies that got us into the status quo. Another Latin word, status quo, and it stands for, ‘Man, the middle-class everyday Americans are really gettin’ taken for a ride.’ That's status quo, and GOP leaders, by the way, y'know the man can only ride ya when your back is bent. So strengthen it. Then the man can't ride ya, America won't be taken for a ride, because so much is at stake and we can't afford politicians playing games like nothing more is at stake than, oh, maybe just the next standing of theirs in the next election."

Clinton Or Palin - The Choice Is Easy For Americans

There is little doubt, at least at this point, that Hillary Clinton will be the Democratic nominee (if she wants it). But what would happen if the Republican's decide to put up a woman against her in 2016? The most likely GOP woman would be Sarah Palin. I don't really think Palin will be their nominee, but she is more likely than any other GOP woman right now.

And such a match-up would be a dream for Democrats. Clinton easily out-paces Palin among both women and men. The difference among women is 24 points, and among men is 7 points. Obviously, nominating a right-wing extremist like Palin is not going to get more women's votes.

These results are from a Rasmussen Poll taken on September 13th and 14th of a random national sample of 1,000 likely voters, with a 3 point margin of error.

Palin For Senate? Bring It On!

The latest news about Sarah Palin is that she says she is "considering" running for senate (to replace the current Democratic senator from Alaska -- Mark Begich). Some liberals on the internet seem upset by this idea, and just wish she would go away. I have a different take on this.

I hope she does run, and I hope she gets the Republican nomination in that state. That's because while she might be able to get the GOP nomination, I don't think she could beat Begich in a general election campaign. Poll after poll has shown she is very unpopular in Alaska, and I doubt the voters there would elect her to any political office again. After all, she let them down the only time she won statewide office, by resigning after only serving half of a term. I don't think they'll make that mistake again.

Unfortunately, I do not believe she's really interested in running. She's just tossing out some fodder for the few fans she has left -- in the hope of milking a few more dollars from them. She has no interest in the hard work of governing (as she showed when she resigned as governor). She just wants to spout off and keep the dollars flowing in -- and if she has to tease her fans with a phantom candidacy to do that (like she did in the last presidential election), then so be it.

But I can always hope, since I would like to see Begich re-elected. He's not as liberal as I would like, but we need to keep a Democratic majority in the Senate -- and he's certainly better than any Republican Alaska would send to Washington.

Palin's Political Career Is Officially Dead

And she’s not only merely dead
She’s really most sincerely dead.

Those are the words used to describe the Wicked Witch in the Wizard of Oz. But after seeing the latest Alaskan poll done by Public Policy Polling, I think the same could be said of the political career of half-term governor Sarah Palin. That survey shows that the people of Alaska have a very low opinion of Palin.

You can start with the fact that while Hillary Clinton polled very close to Chris Christie and Marco Rubio in the Republican state (one point behind Christie and one point ahead of Rubio), she would easily beat Palin in her home state (53% to 37%). But it gets much worse than that. Consider these numbers:

I don't know if numbers could get much worse than that, and those are Palin's home state numbers (with Republicans outnumbering Democrats in the poll). Obviously, the people of Alaska are done with her and ready to put the final nail in the coffin of her "most sincerely dead" political career. I've been saying for a while now that Palin's 15 minutes of fame are over. This poll verifies that.

The Public Policy Polling survey was done on February 4th and 5th of 1,129 Alaska voters (and has a margin of error of 2.9 points). 

Expensive Words

For the last three years (2010 through 2012), half-term governor and failed vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin has been a paid pundit for Fox News. The bosses at Fox News evidently thought Palin could bring them new viewers and boost their ratings. They were wrong.

Fox created a special on Palin, and it bombed in the ratings. Even the right-wingers who love Fox News didn't want to watch it. And she didn't do much better when appearing as a guest on Fox News shows. The two shows she did the most appearances on (Sean Hannity and Greta Van Sustern's shows) are the shows that lost the biggest percentage of viewers since the last election.

Obviously, Americans (even right-wingers) just weren't interested in the word-salads offered up by the woman from Wasilla. So it doesn't come as any surprise that Fox News has refused to renew Palin's contract. Palin has said she made the decision to leave to investigate other opportunities. That's hard to believe. The Fox News gig was the easiest money Palin ever made, and I think she would have stayed for many years if she could have.

But Fox News finally realized that Palin's 15 minutes of fame was over -- something most Americans knew a couple of years ago. And Fox couldn't drop her fast enough after the contract was up. But their failed experiment with Palin turned out to be a fairly costly mistake. They had paid Palin one million dollars a year for the three years -- for a total of three years and three million dollars.

The folks over at Smart Politics have done some math for us, and determined just how expensive Fox' gambit with Palin really was. It turns out that for the three million dollars, Palin gave them a total of 189,221 words -- 72,986 words on Hannity's program, 67,987 words on Van Sustern's program, and 48,248 words on other Fox News shows.

When you divide the number of words uttered by Palin in her three year stint into her three million salary, you get the amazing fact that Fox paid her $15.85 per word. Those are some pretty expensive words, especially considering they were purchased from a brain-dead has-been who seldom made sense with those words.

I would say that I hoped Fox News had learned something from this folly, but they just signed a new contract with Karl Rove -- after his embarrassing election night meltdown. That makes me think they haven't learned anything at all.

Did Palin's Endorsement Help Ted Cruz ?

Going into last Tuesday's Republican primary in Texas there were three major candidates in the race for the senate nomination (and several others, including Craig James, who had no hope at all of being competitive). The major candidates included two right-wing candidates (David Dewhurst and Tom Leppert) and one completely crazy, ultra-right-wing, teabagger (Ted Cruz). Dewhurst, the current Lt. Governor, has been the favorite in the race since he officially declared his candidacy last year.

The only real question for a couple of months now was whether Dewhurst would win the primary outright, or whether he would be forced into a run-off with one of his opponents (probably Cruz). Their was some initial excitement about Cruz's candidacy, but since February his candidacy has had trouble building on that early support. So, in an effort to inject some excitement in his campaign, Cruz asked for and received the endorsement of Alaska's Sarah Palin. Palin gave that endorsement in early May, and even recorded a robo-call for Cruz to use (although it seems a bunch of those calls went to Kansas instead of Texas).

So, did Palin's endorsement help the Cruz campaign? It certainly wasn't good enough to put him over the top last Tuesday night. Dewhurst cruised to an easy first place finish with 44.6% of the Republican vote. Cruz got 34.2% of the vote, and Leppert got 13.3%. None of the other candidates could even get 2% of the vote, except James who got about 3.6%.

That means there will now be a run-off between Dewhurst and Cruz. Palin supporters, and some in the Cruz campaign, may credit Palin with injecting excitement into the campaign, but there is little to support that idea. The reason this campaign went to a run-off is because Leppert was in the race and siphoned off over 13% of the vote (most of it probably from Dewhurst).

Look at the chart above (compiled from polling done by the Texas Tribune). Note that since the Palin endorsement in early May there has been very little upward movement for Cruz. But Dewhurst showed significant upward movement. At best, the Palin endorsement did Cruz no good at all, and at the worst, it may have actually helped his opponent. The 15 minutes of fame for Palin is truly over.

Palin Was On "Today Show" & Nobody Cared

Sarah Palin was on The Today Show last Tuesday morning as a "guest host". Then she went on the Fox News channel and bragged about helping the show to beat its rival, Good Morning America (which had Katie Couric as their guest). I think she considered it some kind of revenge for blowing the softball interview with Couric back during the 2008 campaign. But once again, it seems that Palin has vastly inflated her own importance.

Frankly, if viewer numbers are the benchmark, then it looks like nobody really cared about Sarah's big appearance on the mainstream media. First, The Today Show always beats Good Morning America -- 5 days a week, 4 weeks a month, 12 months a year. NBC didn't need Palin to beat their biggest rival.

Second, the difference in viewers that could possibly be ascribed to Palin was negligible. On Monday the difference in viewers between the two shows was about 333,000. On Tuesday, the day Palin appeared, that difference grew to about 356,000 viewers. That means only 23,000 more viewers tuned in at the most (or about a 0.42% increase over the normal 5.5 million viewers the show regularly gets). That's such a small number that it could just as easily be ascribed to the daily fluctuation in viewers (instead of Palin's appearance).

It's time for the mainstream media to realize that Sarah Palin's 15 minutes of fame was over months ago. Nobody cares about her anymore.

A Great Movie

I watched the new HBO movie Game Change last night, and I have to say it was every bit as good as I had hoped it would be. In fact, it was downright frightening that the Republicans would put someone as unqualified (and crazy) as Sarah Palin "a 72 year-old heartbeat away from the White House". I urge everyone to see this movie, in the hope that it could prevent such a thing from happening again.

The stars were excellent -- Julianne Moore, Woody Harrelson, and Ed Harris. It wouldn't surprise me at all if Moore and Harrelson didn't wind up winning an Emmy for their performances. For an excellent review of the movie, I recommend you read the review written by Geoffrey Dunn. Here are some excerpts from that review:

(Julianne) Moore is absolutely brilliant as the ambition-driven Palin, then the newly elected governor of Alaska, who was literally plucked from the Last Frontier in Cinderella-like fashion by McCain's merry band of political strategists. Watching some of the promotional clips from the film, I was worried that Moore's rendition might not hold up for two-hours. In fact, it took me little more than a few seconds to fall into Moore's performance. She absolutely inhabits Palin. Unlike Tina Fey's celebrated comedic caricature, which is largely one-dimensional, Moore remarkably captures Palin's dark, troubled, and delusional persona. She even manifests Palin's angry-fearful-deer-in-the-headlight look during a close-up of her eyes. It's chilling.


Woody Harrelson as Schmidt is also superb, though he didn't attempt to mimic his character as did Moore. Harrelson handles the dramatic journey taken by Schmidt with grace and sensitivity, without quite capturing his bulky gravitas or serious intelligence. Ed Harris, of whom I'm a huge fan, is fine as McCain, though he is more agile and angular than the aging Senator from Arizona, and he's also missing some of McCain's subterranean anger and volatility.


Those who have argued that Game Change represents a "liberal attack" on Palin are either lying or have their heads in some very dark crevice. The film is told through the eyes of two highly respected Republican operatives, Schmidt and Nicolle Wallace (played well enough by Sarah Paulson, though without quite enough of Wallace's toughness and fire.)


Both Schmidt and Wallace served in high-level capacities in the Bush White House and as senior advisers in the McCain campaign. Both were fiercely loyal to McCain and, initially, to Palin, before they both came to the realization, along with others in the campaign's inner sanctum, that Palin was "unfit" to serve as McCain's running mate. (Wallace recently has characterized Palin as "cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs.") One of the most startling moments in the film comes when a weeping Wallace tells Schmidt that she hadn't voted in the election, quite clearly because of the horror of Palin's behavior on the campaign trail.


As someone who spent more than two years researching and writing my own critical book, The Lies of Sarah Palin: The Untold Story Behind Her Relentless Quest for Power, I am more than a bit familiar with the terrain covered by Game Change. With few exceptions, I found its depiction of Palin's dysfunction during those fateful two months in 2008 both accurate and honest. Has there been some dramatic license taken in the film's narrative? Sure; it's not a documentary. Does it accurately capture the psychological imbalance manifested by Palin during the campaign, and, ultimately, Palin's betrayal of John McCain himself? Absolutely.


I have now watched the film twice; after both screenings I found myself moved and unsettled by it. And Palin's selection should have unsettled every American from across the political spectrum. To play this into a left-right issue, as many in the mainstream press have inanely sought to do, is to engage in sophistry, if not downright journalistic deceit. Game Change ultimately presents a moral challenge about what's right and wrong in the democratic process. It is not an ideological treatise.


To its credit, the film raises broader issues about the American political process, of which Palin is merely a symptom. Its portrayal of how the political sausage gets made does not for a pretty picture make. Near the end of the film, as a group of McCain campaign advisors sidle up to a Phoenix bar facing their inevitable defeat, Harrelson-as-Schmidt utters a prophetic line: "It wasn't a campaign, it was a bad reality show." Palin was picked by McCain's all-male pack of senior advisers not because of her experience and statesmanship, but because of a political calculus that placed a higher value on her flash than her substance. They were looking for a "game-changer" -- and they treated the political future of this country as though it were, indeed, a game.

A Palin "Word Salad" And A New Movie

For some strange reason Fox News seems to think ex-governor Sarah Palin is still politically relevant -- either that or they can't get out of the ill-advised contract they made with her. In either case, they periodically have her on to attack the president (which is all she does these days). The following word salad is in response to a question by Sean Hannity.

I have read the paragraph a couple of times, and I have to admit that I don't understand what she is trying to say at all. As near as I can figure, she trying to say that President Obama wants to go back to a time before the Civil War and re-institute slavery -- but that makes no sense at all. If any of you readers have the ability to translate Palin-speak into English, I would appreciate you're doing so (although I will understand if you don't want to publicly admit to having such a dubious skill).

What I really want to know is does she have some kind of point she is trying feebly to make, or is she just throwing out a bunch of words to cover the fact that she either didn't understand the question or has no logical answer to it. This is what she said:

He (President Obama) is bringing us back Sean, to days..uh..you can harken back to days before the Civil War! When unfortunately too many Americans mistakenly believed that not all men are created equal. And it was the Civil War that began the codification of the truth, that here in America yes we are equal and we all have EQUAL opportunities. Not based on the color of your skin. You have equal opportunity to work hard and to succeed, and to embrace the opportunities, God given opportunities, to develop resources and work extremely hard, and as I say, to succeed. Now it has taken all these years for many Americans to understand that that gravity, that mistake, that took place before the Civil War and why the Civil War really had to start changing America, What Barack Obama seems to want to do is go back to before those days when we were in different classes, based on income, based on color of skin. Why are we allowing our country to move backwards, instead of moving forward with that understanding, that as our charters of liberty spell out for us, WE..ARE..ALL..CREATED..EQUALLY.

In other Palin "news", the long-awaited movie about her selection as John McCain's vice-presidential candidate will air on HBO tonight at 8:00pm (CST). The movie is called "Game Change" and stars Julianne Moore as Sarah Palin and Ed Harris as John McCain. I am personally a big fan of both of those actors, so I am looking forward to seeing the movie. I also understand that this movie will likely be the final nail in Palin's political coffin (although I doubt any more nails were really needed).

Palin Finally Ends The Tease

It looks like Sarah Palin realized that the tease was running out of time -- either that or she figures she's got as much money out of her deluded supporters as she can. Yesterday she finally ended one of the longest-running political teases in modern times by announcing that she will not be entering the GOP presidential contest. This doesn't really surprise most of us. For quite a while now she has had the largest disapproval numbers of any presidential possibility.

A recent poll showed that even 66% of Republicans didn't want her to enter the race. The more the public got to know Sarah Palin, the more they disliked her. In the end she was little more than a political joke with most Americans. She can still get some pretty big speaking fees from some right-wing groups, but now that's she's officially not a candidate that'll probably dry up pretty quickly. She never made much sense or displayed any ability to think on her own -- mainly just parroting what other right-wingers have said (and without fully understanding it).

The only reason people, including the media, still paid any attention to her at all was the possibility that she might enter the presidential race for the Republican nomination. I bet she'll shortly become totally irrelevant to the political landscape. For those of you that are interested, here is the letter that Palin read on a conservative talk show revealing her decision not to run:

After much prayer and serious consideration, I have decided that I will not be seeking the 2012 GOP nomination for President of the United States. As always, my family comes first and obviously Todd and I put great consideration into family life before making this decision. When we serve, we devote ourselves to God, family and country. My decision maintains this order.

My decision is based upon a review of what common sense Conservatives and Independents have accomplished, especially over the last year. I believe that at this time I can be more effective in a decisive role to help elect other true public servants to office – from the nation’s governors to Congressional seats and the Presidency. We need to continue to actively and aggressively help those who will stop the “fundamental transformation” of our nation and instead seek the restoration of our greatness, our goodness and our constitutional republic based on the rule of law.

From the bottom of my heart I thank those who have supported me and defended my record throughout the years, and encouraged me to run for President. Know that by working together we can bring this country back – and as I’ve always said, one doesn’t need a title to help do it. 

I will continue driving the discussion for freedom and free markets, including in the race for President where our candidates must embrace immediate action toward energy independence through domestic resource developments of conventional energy sources, along with renewables. We must reduce tax burdens and onerous regulations that kill American industry, and our candidates must always push to minimize government to strengthen the economy and allow the private sector to create jobs. 

Those will be our priorities so Americans can be confident that a smaller, smarter government that is truly of the people, by the people, and for the people can better serve this most exceptional nation. 

In the coming weeks I will help coordinate strategies to assist in replacing the President, re-taking the Senate, and maintaining the House.

Palin Tries To Bully Book Publisher

If there's anything that Sarah Palin doesn't want the public to know about, it's what a despicable person she really is. So she really was upset when the book by Joe McGinniss was released by Crown Publishing. The book, The Rogue: Searching for the Real Sarah Palin, lays out the truth about what Palin is like, warts and all.

Evidently Palin thought she could bully the publishers of McGinniss's book, and get it pulled off the shelves. She turned her attorney, John Tiemessen, loose to threaten them with a lawsuit. Tiemessen sent Crown Publishing Group a letter threatening to sue them if they continued selling the book, saying the book contained "lies and rumors" and "amounted to the wishful fantasies of disturbed individuals".

But Crown Publishing, a division of publishing giant Random House, doesn't scare too easily. Crown spokesman Stuart Applebaum said the reporting in the book is "solid, reliable, and well-substantiated", and the company will stand behind McGinniss and his book.

The crazy thing about all of this is that the book wasn't flying off the shelves. It hasn't cracked the non-fiction top twenty on the New York Times best-seller list, and when I checked the Amazon top 100 earlier today it was number 78 on that list. But now that Palin has tried to bully the publisher I expect sales will pick up. People will want to know what's in the book that has her so upset.  And that may already be starting to happen. When I re-checked the Amazon list a few minutes ago, the book had moved up to number 76.

Palin is not going to sue because: 1) The publisher would love that since book sales would go through the roof. 2) The publishers have their ducks all in a row and the author can back up his claims. 3) Palin is a bully, and bullies never take on people willing to fight back.

If she's smart (which is very doubtful), she'll just shut up about the book. All she's doing right now is selling more of the books. I can't believe she doesn't realize that.

Now I'm Worried (Because I Agree With Palin)

Regular readers of this blog will know that I am no fan of the Wasilla quitter, Sarah Palin. As far as politicians go, Sarah Palin may be the dumbest and most incompetent of all (with the possible exception of Michele Bachmann and Rick Perry). And that's saying a lot considering all of the stupid and incompetent politicians (of both parties) that currently hold elective office -- both on the state and national level.

A couple of days ago Palin went back to Iowa and gave another one of her $100,000 speeches. As usual, most of it was garbage -- just another rant on how President Obama is ruining the country with his economic policies (ignoring the fact that most of those policies are Republican policies that he has caved in and agreed to).

But in that speech (choke-gasp-this is really hard to admit) she actually said one thing that not only made sense, but I agree with! I still find it hard to believe that I actually wrote that sentence, but it's true. Sarah Palin made a coherent and intelligent statement. She may take it back once she realizes what she's done, but it's on the record now. Here's what she said:

"To be fair some GOP candidates, they also raise mammoth amounts of cash and we need to ask them too, ‘What if anything do their donors expect in return for their investments?’ We need to know this because our country can’t afford more trillion-dollar thank-you notes to campaign backers."

And she's absolutely right about that. All of the major Republican candidates have formed a super-PAC, capable of allowing them to avoid the limits on campaign donations. These super-PACs are dedicated to only one thing -- getting their particular candidate elected. And there is no limit to the amount of money a person or corporation (or special interest group) can donate. Even worse, the donors to these super-PACs can keep their own identities a secret -- so the American public can never know who has donated huge sums to the candidate.

But while the public doesn't know who's donating the big money to a candidates campaign through these super-PACs, you can be sure the candidates know. And they know what those donors expect in return if the candidate gets elected -- even though it's done with "a wink and a nod" rather than a written agreement.

Campaign donation limits were passed to keep the rich or corporations & special interests from buying a candidate to do their bidding (whether in perception or in reality). It was an effort to keep candidates honest and independent, in the hope they would then do what was best for the country rather than what was best for their biggest contributors. It was a good idea, but the Supreme Court killed it.

The U.S. Supreme Court decision in Citizens United vs FEC decided that money was the same as speech, and restricting the amount of money a person or entity donated was restricting their free speech. Although it left in place the limits on donations directly to a candidate's campaign, the decision allowed the creation of these "independent" super-PACs -- and that gave the rich entities an easy way around donation limits. Once again, if you have enough money you can buy a candidate (and keep that fact secret).

So, although it still pains me to say it, Sarah Palin was right (about this one thing). But now I'm worried. Is the world coming to an end?

NOTE -- In the interest of fairness, I must report that President Obama also has one of these super-PACs.

Palin Movie Goes Down In Flames

If you've been reading this blog for the last couple of weeks then you'll know that I've been keeping track of the Palin propaganda movie and how it's failing at the box office. The movie, mis-titled The Undefeated, opened weakly the first weekend and then dropped precipitously in the second weekend. It's third weekend would have to be called a disaster. Here are the numbers for the three weekends:

July 15th thru 17th -- $65,132 on 10 screens ($6513 per screen)

July 22nd thru 24th -- $24,664 on 14 screens ($1762 per screen)

July 29th thru 31st -- $5200 on 4 screens ($1300 per screen)

Since its opening the movie has grossed only $112,200.

Turn the oven off. This turkey is done.

The Smell Of Desperation

As you probably know by now, the supporters of Sarah Palin (and probably Palin herself) were hoping that the new movie about Palin that recently hit the theaters would salvage her flagging popularity and propel her to the Republican presidential nomination. But things aren't working out that way.

The movie had a below average performance in its first weekend of release, and then went right into the dumper on the second weekend (with less than a $2000 per screen average). It turns out that even most Republicans have no desire to see this terrible movie.

And the smell of desperation is beginning to emanate from "Team Sarah". Just look at the recent missive they have sent out to anyone that was ever on a Palin mailing list:

The movie, The Undefeated, faces an onslaught of the same kind of “invalidation” that Sarah Palin faces from the media establishment.

For those who have been out promoting the movie, and trying to get people in the cities where it is showing to BUY TICKETS NOW, this has been quite a journey.

Movies, ALL movies, have their ups and downs, but you can bet that when The Undefeated has its “ups” the media will ignore that and when it has its “downs” the media will over-hype it, as if “it’s all over because of a bad day!”

Everyone knows that "success" is never a straight line!

The fight to make sure people KNOW the truth about how the ESTABLISHMENT treats ordinary Americans who rise to leadership is only just beginning!

If that doesn't smell like desperation then I don't know what does. It looks like some of these people are starting to realize that America is done with their teabagger queen.

Palin Movie Tanks In Its Second Weekend

The new movie about Sarah Palin was supposed to jump-start her failing celebrity status and possibly propel her into the presidential campaign as a leading contender. At least that was the hope of her most rabid supporters (who have had very little to cheer about recently). But it looks like those hopes were misplaced.

As I reported several days ago, the first weekend the Palin movie, The Undefeated, was in the theaters was not really a resounding success. The movie was only released to 10 screens in the parts of the country where Palin's popularity is supposed to be the strongest. Hollywood considers a movie to be very mediocre if it averages about $10,000 per screen, and the Palin movie couldn't even do that. It averaged somewhere between $6,000 and $7,500 per screen -- even after all the internet hype Palin supporters tried to drum up.

But the figures after the second weekend make the first weekend look great. The movie showing was extended to 14 screens, but it didn't help. The movie only grossed $24,000 in its second weekend, for a per screen average of only $1,714 dollars. ( a drop of 63.2%). Ouch! That has to hurt. And those had to have been some pretty deserted theaters. It would take a dedicated right-wing Palin-supporter of a theater owner to keep losing money on this turkey day after day, when even a bad movie would bring in more money.

It looks like the makers of this bad movie know it's not going to last long in the theaters. The second weekend gross has made that pretty clear. They are rushing this turkey into other types of markets (which normally takes most movies many months to reach). ARC Entertainment has announced The Undefeated will be available for Video-on-Demand and Pay-Per-View by September 1st. Then it will be available on DVD by October 4th (including a "special edition" only available at Walmart).

I doubt this will help very much. I'm sure the die-hard Palin fans will buy some DVD's, but if the general public is not willing to go see this movie in the theater it is unlikely they'll want to shell out money to see it on television or buy the DVD. Frankly, I think Palin's 15 minutes of fame is about over. The public has peeked behind the curtain, and they don't like what they saw there.

Is GOP Tiring Of The Palin/Perry Tease ?

Sarah Palin has been teasing Republican voters for quite a while now with her "Maybe I will, Maybe I won't" stance on the presidential campaign. This has allowed her to keep on raising money through her PAC because her supporters are hoping they are helping fund a presidential run, and it has also allowed her to dodge any debates or media interviews because she's not an official candidate.

Now Rick Perry is playing that same game. He's saw how well it is working for Palin (and like Palin, he doesn't do well with the media -- avoiding them like the plague in his last run for the governor's office). For about a month now he's allowed his aides to leak just enough "maybes" to keep people interested (he hopes).

But there are signs that the Republicans may be tiring of the cute political game Palin and Perry are playing -- at least the Iowa Republicans are. The Iowa GOP is having their political straw poll in about three weeks (August 13th) and they're getting a little peeved at the Perry/Palin duo. It seems they think if a person wants their support for the nomination, then they need to declare their candidacy and get themselves to Iowa and ask for support.

Since Perry and Palin have not declared themselves as candidates (and there is no real reason to think they even will do so), the Iowa Republicans have decided to leave them off the straw poll ballot. This won't help either one, as the Iowa straw poll is viewed as a good way for a candidate's campaign to get a nice boost. It looks like the Iowans are telling these two campaigns they need to make up their fickle minds or forget it altogether.

There are nine candidates who will be listed on the straw poll ballot. These include the six candidates who have paid $15,000 for a booth (which also gives them the right to make a speech). Those candidates are Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain, Ron Paul, Tim Pawlenty, Rick Santorum, and Thaddeus McCotter.

In addition to the six who have opted in fully for the straw poll, the Iowa GOP also has included three other candidates on the ballot because those candidates have declared their candidacy and have at least a modicum of support. They are Mitt Romney, Jon Huntsman, and Newt Gingrich.

Three declared candidates were left off the ballot, ostensibly because they have failed to generate any support at all. They are Buddy Roemer, Gary Johnson, and Fred Karger (whoever the hell he is).

Palin Movie Has Below Average Opening

The mis-named movie about Sarah Palin, The Undefeated, opened last weekend. And it certainly hasn't debuted as the blockbuster Palin fans had hoped it would be. It was hoped that the movie would serve as a possible springboard for a Palin presidential candidacy, but it looks now like most Republicans don't even want to see this dog (all the critics have panned it.

The film was only opened in 10 cities -- all deemed to be in areas where Palin is popular (Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, Denver, Phoenix, Orlando, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Oklahoma City, Orange County). The Hollywood Reporter says the film only grossed between $60,000 and $75,000, or between $6,000 and $7,500 per theater. An average opening (something not desired by filmmakers) would be a theater average of $10,000.

The filmmaker, Stephen Bannon, is obviously a deluded man. He's claiming the movie is a smash hit, and will gross much more per theater when released in larger cities (although Dallas, Houston, Atlanta and Phoenix sound like pretty large cities to me). He also claims the theater average is good because the film wasn't advertised. That's not exactly true -- in fact, it's not true at all. Pro-Palin organizations have been pushing this movie hard through the mail and the internet for weeks now.

The truth is that only the most die-hard Palin fans have any desire at all to see this turkey, and once they have seen it theaters showing it will be deserted. I would be very surprised if this movie is still in any theaters past this month.

GOP Says No To Palin - Still No Favorite In Race

There are those who think Sarah Palin's recent road trip was designed to improve her ratings and set up her entrance into the Republican presidential nomination race. If so, it was a miserable failure. Her ignorance over a bit of history any school child knows (the ride of Paul Revere) just reaffirmed the belief of most Americans that's she's just not smart enough to be president.

But the trip probably wouldn't have done much good even if it had gone as she planned. A recent poll done by CBS News (completed June 3rd through June 7th of 1,024 adults nationwide with a margin of error of 3 points) shows that two-thirds of the general public (66%) don't want Palin to enter the presidential race, while only 25% would like to see her run.

That would be bad enough, but it gets worse. The same poll shows that a majority of Republicans (54%) and half of all teabaggers (50%) also think she should not run. Only 34% of Republicans and 38% of teabaggers think she should enter the race. This is bad news for Palin. The teabaggers are her natural base, and if 50% of them don't want her to run then her chances of actually getting the nomination are sinking fast. Palin also has the highest unfavorability rating among Republicans of any candidate (although Newt Gingrich is close).

Some may think that with Palin doing so poorly (and Huckabee and Daniels deciding not to run), Mitt Romney would be poised to jump out into a clear lead and separate himself from the pack. And a recent Quinnipiac University poll recently lent some credence to that notion. Their poll (done May 31st through June 6th with a margin of error of 3.4 points) showed Romney with a 10 point lead -- 25% to second place Sarah Palin who had 15%.

But 25% is still nothing to be proud of, and another poll dashed any hope that he had begun to separate himself from the field. A Reuters/Ipsos poll (taken June 4th through June 6th with a 3 point margin of error) showed Romney finishing second to Sarah Palin. Palin had 22% and Romney had 20%. It's clear that the race for the Republican nomination is still wide open. No one has yet seized the public's imagination and there is still room for new candidates to enter the race (which Rudy Giuliani and Rick Perry are likely to do -- although their ability to excite voters is doubtful).

Let me finish with an odd little poll from the good people at Public Policy Polling. They decided to see just how favorably the Republican candidates were viewed by the people in their own home states. Amazingly, only one of the candidates had a higher favorability number in his/her home state than an unfavorability number (and that candidate, Gary Johnson, is the longest of shots to get the nomination). How's the general public supposed to like these candidates when more people in their home state dislike them than like them? Here are their home state numbers:

Palin Is Dissed By Her Hero

It's no secret that Sarah Palin would like to assume the mantle of being the "modern Ronald Reagan" -- an image that would boost her in the eyes of Republicans (and possibly put her on the road to the presidential nomination). I imagine the very thought of that would make Reagan turn over in his grave (especially after Palin quitting midway through her first term as governor). Reagan may have been many things, but he was never a quitter.

One way Palin was expecting to accomplish her goal was to meet with (and receive the blessing of) Britain's Iron Lady, Margaret Thatcher. Thatcher (pictured) was a friend of and close ally with Ronald Reagan, and Palin is hoping that rubbing shoulders with Thatcher will give her some gravitas.

Palin told Christina Lamb in the Sunday Times, "I am going to Sudan in July and hope to stop in England on the way. I am just hoping Mrs. Thatcher is well enough to see me as I so admire her."

But it looks like that meeting is not going to happen -- even if Thatcher is in the best of health. It seems that Thatcher and her allies don't believe Palin is worthy of a meeting. One of her aides said, "Lady Thatcher will not be seeing Sarah Palin. That would be belittling for Margaret. Sarah Palin is nuts."

Ouch! That has to hurt. Now if only the American Republicans were as perceptive as the English Conservative icon.

Cain Has Most "Intense" Support Among Republicans

The Republican field of presidential candidates is large (and may grow larger), and no one has yet been able to separate themselves from the pack and take the lead as the favorite. Most pundits had thought Mitt Romney would have been the clear favorite by now, but he's having problems with the teabaggers (over RomneyCare and his mormonism) and while he has finished first in several polls, there always seems to be a couple of other candidates within the margin of error of the poll.

The Gallup Poll has started doing what they call the Positive Intensity Score on all the candidates, with the theory being that the more intense a candidates support is the better chance they have of retaining their supporters and staying in the race. A low intensity score would indicate a candidate is having trouble attracting hard-core support (and could lose there support upon hitting a bump in the road.

Gallup arraives at the Positive Intensity Score by taking the number of people who strongly favor a candidate and subtracting the number of people who strongly dislike that candidate. Only those familiar with the candidate are polled. Here are the latest Positive Intensity Scores (from a survey taken of 1,500 Republicans from May 23rd through June 5th):

Cain has gained 19 points in his name recognition, but this has not hurt his intensity level among supporters, which remains the highest of any candidate so far. Mean while Gingrich keeps sliding -- since he had an intensity score of +9 a couple of weeks ago.
