The Candidates Talk About Ann Richards

I wish I had the words to tell of my love and respect for Ann Richards, but I don't. Normally, I spew out words like a water fountain, but right now, the words just aren't there. I have decided instead to let the candidates I support speak for me. Here are their words:

Hank Gilbert
I was deeply saddened to learn of the death of Governor Richards. She did more for Texas in one term as Governor than Bush and Perry have in 12 years.
On behalf of myself and my family, I offer my sincere condolences to the family of Governor Richards. Texas has truly lost a legend and Texas Democrats have lost a best friend.

David Van Os
With the passing of Ann Richards, one of Texas' noblest daughters moves on into the annals of history.
In her lifetime, Ann Richards shared with three generations of her fellow Texans her passion for social justice, her compassion for humanity, her zeal for truth, her brilliant intellect, and the warm nourishment of her friendship. She also shared with us her fierce and indomitable determination to break every glass ceiling and to encourage all out daughters and sons to pursue a world of equality and justice.
It is one of the great good fortunes of my life that I had the privilege to know her personally, as a leader, a heroine, a mentor and a friend. But we all had to know that as a mortal human she could not stay with us forever. It is a sad moment but at the same time it is a moment to be thankful for all that this remarkable woman did to make this age of humanity a better time than it would have been without her. Ann Richards now takes her place as a woman for all the ages.

Dear Governor Richards, I am grateful for the eye-opening experience I had when you ran for Governor of Texas. It was my distinct privilege to live in this era when I could cast my vote for you. It marked a significant shift in my personal politics.
My membership in the Texas National Guard during your administration was a period that I served most proudly because I could proclaim that a woman was my Commander-in-chief. Of the regrets I may ever have in my lifetime, my deepest regret will be not having the opportunity to thank you personally for your inspiration. Now your final day on earth has dawned and your family, friends and others will mourn and miss you for some time. However, your inspiration will live forever in the hearts and minds of many today, and those to come. Thank you.

We mourn the death of a great Texas leader, Ann Richards. She inspired the next generation. She champoined vital causes and led with spirit, eloquence, humanity, wisdom and humor. May her memory be a blessing.
