One problem is that so many do not know the difference between BEATING and PUNISHMENT. I was Punished for bad actions, I punished my kids, and never BEAT them or even spanked them much and YES spanking a kid thru his clothes is NOT beating. The difference is a soft hand or a large wooden stick. One makes noise and shows disapproval and the other leaves marks.
