Most Americans Think Donald Trump Is A Criminal

The chart above reflects the results of the new Economist / YouGov Poll -- done between March 3rd and 5th of a national sample of 1,500 adults (including 1,304 registered voters). The margin of error for adults is 3.2 points, and for registered voters is 2.8 points.

It shows that a significant portion of Americans believe that Donald Trump has committed a serious crime -- all adults by a 24 point margin (49% to 25%), and registered voters by a 26 point margin (53% to 27%).

Most amazing to me is that only 52% of Republicans and 53% of Trump voters say he has not committed a serious crime. That means 48% of Republicans and 47% of Trump voters either believe he did or aren't sure whether he did or not. And yet they continue to support him, and say they would vote for his re-election.

It shows the power of hate. Those people don't support Trump because of his agenda. He really doesn't have an agenda (conservative or otherwise). His only agenda is to do what he thinks is good for himself (and that is subject to change at a moment's notice).

So, why do these people continue to support him? It's because they value hate above morality and/or policy. The white supremacists and other racists like Trump because they see him as hating the same people they hate (minorities, Jews, etc.). The xenophobes like Trump because they see him hating the same people they hate (immigrants). The evangelicals like Trump because they see him as hating the same people they do (gays, lesbians, transgendered). The corporate powers like Trump because they see him as hating the same people they do (workers, the poor). Trump appeals to the hate in all those groups.

There are no positive values in the cult of Trump. They will tell you that's he's making the country great again -- but for them, making the country great means hating and discriminating against other Americans. They want to return the country back to a time when rich white men ruled, and no one else had any rights.

For those in Trump's cult, hate is the overriding belief. It "trumps" love, morality, honesty, fairness, equality, and generosity. And in Trump, they have found their leader. He shares their lack of any value but hate.

  1. Just found your site. You're spot on with all your Trump observations.

It's stunning - non-christians are now having to teach Christians what the Bible actually says. None of them seem capable of reading it anymore (and probably don't). Christianity and the religion of love your neighbor has become xenophobia and hate.

Their profits [sic] and preachers are so busy whipping up the Trump base with xenophobic lies and racism that they've lost all sense of direction (and identity, unless you include white nationalism).

I'd like to see an unbiased poll of Christian organizations in America and whether or not they support Trump. And how many actually think he was appointed by God and not by voters.

The results would probably scare the hell out of the rest of us. We don't have enough mental institutions to house them all.
