McCain Abandons Michigan

Right after the conventions, John McCain seemed to believe the major media's assertion that Michigan was actually a "battleground" state thet he could win. He and Palin even started their post-convention campaign in that state, and he began to spend millions of campaign dollars there.

He seemed to forget that Michigan hasn't voted Republican in a couple of decades. It is also one of the states hardest hit by Republican economic policies. They have seen their jobs moved to other countries, while Bush rewarded those same corporations with tax cuts. Michigan has the highest unemployment rate in the nation. Anyone with a little common sense would have known that it was extremely unlikely that the people of Michigan would vote for a continuation of the Republican economic policies.

Now it looks like even McCain can see the handwriting on the wall. With Obama approaching a double-digit lead in the state, McCain spokesmen admit they are pulling staff and advertising dollars out of Michigan. They now see Michigan as hopeless, and think their efforts and money could be better used in other states.

McCain's senior advisor Greg Strimple said of Michigan, "It's been the worst state of all the states that are in play and it's an obvious one, from my perspective, to come off the list."

I have to agree with him. McCain has been pouring over a million dollars a week into Michigan. That money has just been wasted.
