Teabaggers Throw Their Tantrums

Well, April 15th has come and gone. The teabaggers threw their little political orgy yesterday, and little was truly the operative word. With all the money they had for financing, and with Faux News pushing the events as hard as they could, I really expected more.

Here in Amarillo, the hometown newspaper (and mouthpiece for Republican activities) estimated the noon crowd at "as many as 350 people". I drove by the courthouse at noon, and I have to say I think that estimate was very generous. Another quote from the paper said, "The parking lot on the north side of the old Potter County courthouse was a sea of American flags and protest signs ...". What they don't say is this is not a large parking lot. I doubt that over 25 cars could be parked there.

Frankly, that's not much of a crowd considering the bi-county area has around a quarter of a million people. The organizers were hoping for a cross-section of people to gather in a true grassroots effort, but that turned out to be wishful thinking, too. According to the newspaper, what was supposed to be an outcry against taxes degenerated into the basic right-wing gripes -- socialism, abortion, christian values, guns, illegal immigration, taxes, etc.

This was nothing more than a pity-party for the ultra-right. These are the losers in the last election. They have been fuming for several months, and yesterday was their opportunity to finally throw their tantrum. That's really the only thing the whole teabag party was about.

Now maybe the rest of America can get on with fixing the mess these people and their leaders made of our country.

Meanwhile, down in Austin at another poorly attended teabag party, our idiot governor opened his mouth and proved to the world that he is truly brain-dead. While talking to reporters, Perry told them that Texas might actually secede from the United States if things don't get better. Maybe someone should tell him what happened the last time Texas tried to do that.

Personally, I think he got carried away pandering to his right-wing base. That statement could come back to bite him in the ass in next year's governor's race.

  1. Most of the commenters talking about Perry's little tizzy have been saying Oh, Please do it!

  2. That was kind of my first thought too. As for the sane Texans (such as JA) who don't want to leave the Union, there will be plenty of room in AZ if TX secedes.

A *lot* of our wingers will pull up stakes and move there.

And those of us who stay will just say "adios."

  3. Ruth-
There are a lot of nuts out there. One of the local TV stations up here is running a nonscientific poll, and the last time I checked, out of 500 votes about 56% were in favor of seceding.

Of course it won't happen, but if it ever did, Arizona would be my first choice of a new home.

  4. jobsanger, did you find out how the question was worded for the poll? I bet it didn't ask if we ought to pay for our own roads, schools, border patrol police and courts out of those oil revenues. State income tax anyone?

  5. It was "Do you think Texas should secede from the union?", and you have just started to list the new expenses Texas would incur.
