10 Excuses For The Failure Of Prayer

One thing that nearly all christians (and people in other religions) believe in is the power of prayer. It doesn't seem to matter that most of these prayers go unanswered (or can be explained by coincidence or the actions of humans). Religious people are happy to blame the actions of humans on god, or to make excuses for why that god didn't answer their prayer.

Over at the blog No Godz my friend Mark has come up with the top 10 reasons (excuses) why god didn't answer prayer. There may be others, but these 10 are heard all the time. Here they are:

1. “God doesn’t work like that”.
2. “It must have not been God’s Will”.
3. “You didn’t have enough faith”.
4. “God used the doctor as his tool to cure you”.
5. “You should not test God”.
6. “God has performed all kinds of miracles. Only faith allows you to see them”.
7. “Starving and diseased children are the result of man’s interference and evil”.
8. “God has a plan”.
9. “God works in mysterious ways”.
10.“Prayer is an act of faith”.

  1. How many prayers do you suppose were offered up during the holocost, and how well did it work?
