The problem is not with those immigrants that come in through the front door. They are the life's blood of this country. If it weren't for legal immigration, my family would still be in Europe speaking German (or French, or Polish).
The problem is with immigrants who sneak in through the side window. If someone breaks into my house without my knowledge or consent, I feel less of an obligation to roll out the welcome mat.
Should we allow more legal immigration? Probably so. But when there are no controls over who enters this country, even if the vast majority are hard working and productive, a certain percentage of criminals will most assuredly be among them.
