The field of candidates seeking the Democratic presidential nomination continues to grow, and now rests at 23.
On Tuesday, Montana Governor Steve Bullock made the announcement that he is running. As the Democratic governor of a very red state, he wants Democrats to believe that he can bring red states into the fold -- making it more likely that Trump will be kicked out of the White House. He says:
"We need to defeat Donald Trump in 2020 and defeat the corrupt system that lets campaign money drown out the people's voice, so we can finally make good on the promise of a fair shot for everyone."
The other "new" candidate is Mike Gravel. I'm not sure we should really consider him a candidate, since he's not actively campaigning and has said he doesn't want votes or donations. The 88 year-old former senator from Alaska just wants to get on the debate stage to discuss issues he says the other candidates won't. Basically, he wants to push the party even further to the left than Bernie Sanders.
Here are the 23 candidates (22 Democrats and 1 Independent):
Joe Biden
Kamala Harris
Elizabeth Warren
Beto O'Rourke
Pete Buttigieg
Cory Booker
Julian Castro
Amy Klobuchar
Jay Inslee
John Hickenlooper
Andrew Yang
Michael Bennet
John Delaney
Tim Ryan
Wayne Messam
Seth Moulton
Eric Swalwell
Kirsten Gillibrand
Marianne Williamson
Steve Bullock
Tulsi Gabbard
Bernie Sanders (I)
Mike Gravel
